How Your Eyes Might Affect Your Alcoholism Risk

I’m Gabe Garza with today’s health news. A
new study found that there may be a link between eye color and the risk of alcohol dependence.
Researchers found that primarily European Americans with light-colored eyes — including
eyes that were green, grey and brown in the center — had a higher rate of alcohol dependency
than those with dark brown eyes. The strongest tendency was found among blue-eyed people.
This may mean that the genes that determine eye color work alongside genes that determine
part of patients’ risk of alcohol dependence, researchers said. Make sure to speak with
your doctor about steps to avoid alcohol abuse.
