Dealing with Dysphoria EP 1 | Meditation

Hey a couple months ago one of my friends invited me to a meditation class and I’d never been to one before so I didn’t know what to expect I went along and I found it really really helpful in the last week or so I’ve been thinking about it again and really wanting to go and experience it alone and see how it benefits be that way so, I booked my ticket and I made my way there, and it took like an hour on a bus but I just really wanted to do it again the place I went to is going to be different from a lot of places but I just thought I would give you an idea of what it’s like to be at a class basically we all took some food and then ate together before a meditation in a different room and the first meditation we did was called “loving kindness meditation” I think it was a guided meditation talking about just basically sending love to everyone I think that that is a really powerful kind of meditation for dealing with dysphoria, and dealing with our transitions because there is a lot blame and guilt and shame and anger that surrounds every part of transitioning a lot of us feel angry towards our selves and like angry towards our bodies that haven’t done anything wrong this meditation, is like so good for that kind of stuff basically what the meditation is – you start off just sitting in silence for a bit and it gives you time to get used to the atmosphere and your thoughts just it just gives you some time to settle down sort of thing the first part is sending love to a friend or someone that you love and that’s like – super easy right you’re just sitting there, and you’re just thinking over and over again – “I’m sending love to this person” or that’s what I do anway and I kind of just imagine this wave of love going over the person that I’m thinking about the second bit is thinking about someone that is neutral to you someone that you might have just met, or passed on the street and looked at or someone that you don’t know very well and don’t really have – bad or great feelings about them and you do the same, you just sit there and think about sending them love the next bit is sending love to someone that you find difficult and this can be quite.. hard sometimes you don’t even want to have the image of someone that you’re finding difficult in your head and like you don’t have to think about the most difficult person in your life you do the same over and over again, you just think about sending them love and letting go of that pent up anger bas energy towards them, and just send them love the next bit is to i think.. send love to all animals and all people all beings.. I think that’s pretty self explanatory again, you just send love to them, over and over again the next one is sending love to yourself and that can be the most difficult one we’re told to that loving ourselves is just vain and something we should do but it’s the complete opposite being able to send yourself love is such a nice thing to do and it just helps to be told that “ok you gotta send yourself some love now” it can be difficult when you spend so much time upset about who you are, or a certain part of you or your body and stuff so it’s just really nice to just have that image of yourself and just imagine getting hugged or this wave of love coming over you it’s a very healing thing to do after that I think you just sit in silence again and just take some time to wake up and that takes like an hour to do and it might sound intimidating but I’m sure there are some shorter videos on doing it for less time and with a better guided kind of thing where they talk a lot more you can always meditate at home in your bedroom or somewhere else or outside or while you’re walking on a bench in a park or anything like that if you’re not safe or comfortable or happy at home then I really recommend going to a class and finding a class that has that kind of meditation or any kind of meditation because any kind helps I’ll put some links of different meditations in the description box just give it a go and you might really like it and if you don’t then that’s alright we’ll figure something else out that’s it! I hope that was helpful and if it wasn’t then I’m sorry I will have another tip next.. in the next time whenever it is I hope everyone is doing well and I hope you’re having a good day and week and everything and and I will see you next time!

  2. I LOVE the loving kindness meditation! Mindfulness and meditation is, in my opinion, the best thing you can ever learn, it is especially helpful when you have a difficult journey such as we do! We are mind body and spirit and each should be n balance, meditation helps with that. This is the main way I have dealt with and learnt to cope with my anxiety, highly recommend! So glad to hear you talk about it!

  3. I have this app called "Stop, breathe & think" and its great for all kinds of meditation. You 'check in' at the beginning and it comes up with different meditations that you can do, you might find useful – if not, nevermind! Haha! Hope you're having a great day 😀
